Update on the Current Status of HB 54 - NP/PA Legislation in Georgia
The following is communication from the Georgia Association of Home Health Agencies on 2.25.2025
This is an update on the current status of HB 54. Yesterday this bill passed through house health committee, however NPs were removed, allowing only PAs to certify HH.
The reasoning is that PAs have more direct oversight and management by MDs. This is very upsetting to us all, especially given that the house health committee approved a bill To all NPs and PAs to perform invasive artificial insemination ( a physician must be in the building). The bill is not dead. We are looking at several options to keep our original bill moving. We are trying to attach our bill to another in a different committee. Now is the time, more than ever, to reach out to everyone of your legislators, HH colleagues, etc. We must get the word out about the injustice this will be doing to our patients! We have until March 6th to get this through committee and passed by the house floor.
We urgently request your help in contacting your respective House members and let them know the importance of including NPs in the Bill. Please do this TODAY as we have until March 6, Crossover Day, to get the Bill passed to include NPs. We will keep you informed as to the direction the Bill takes. You can find your House member at Georgia General Assembly - Representatives.
